The Beetham Bursary

We are delighted to officially launch our 'Beetham Bursary' in memory of his legacy this special year.

This bursary fund of £150,000 would afford a Barnardian's entire Senior School education (Year 7 to 13) as well as extras, such as uniform and enriching trips.

Success in life and impact on the world has always been about more than grades – the rich variety and history of Old Barnardians is surely testament to this and many have been helped in times past through the generosity of others.

Barney has long focused on developing young people of character; individuals with the confidence, compassion, creativity and humanity to make a real difference in our ever-changing world. Moreover, providing access to children, regardless of their means, has been part of our School since 1881 when the first governing document enshrined this purpose (no doubt some of your peers have benefited over the years from the foresight of our forebears).

Barnard Castle School is also proud to also work closely with the Royal Springboard Foundation, to afford opportunities to deserving young people.

In the current challenging financial times, Barney needs your help to sustain and grow our ability to support pupils in financial need. This not only benefits them but the diversity they bring to School enriches the education we provide. Growing our ability to offer means tested access to a Barney education further secures our School's future in uncertain political times.

Currently, just 1 of the 35 pupils who receive a mean tested bursary is funded by a philanthropic legacy – a proportion we need and believe we can change.

The Beetham Bursary will ensure that for years to come children without the full means can still access a Barnard Castle School education and all the opportunities that it brings.

We are very grateful for the support we receive from all of our donors. Your contribution helps to ensure that our School can offer an outstanding education to children regardless of their family's circumstances, and that the opportunities and experiences we offer are inspirational.

Thank you.
