We were proud to welcome back Professor Duncan Lorimer (Teesdale '87) to Barnard Castle School. Now a Professor at West Virginia University, Fellow of the Royal Society and recipient of the Shaw Prize, he is internationally recognised for his discovery of Fast Radio Bursts, including one of the earliest ever recorded, the Lorimer Burst. He shared his journey from a school interest in mathematics to a career in astrophysics, encouraging pupils to pursue what inspires them. We are grateful to him for giving his time to speak with our sixth form physicists, younger pupils, and for leading smaller sessions full of insight and inspiration. |
